Starside Elementary was completed in time to begin the 1998-99 school year. It currently houses Kindergarten to fifth grades on the west side of the district. Prior to completion, those grades were dispersed throughout the district. PreK and kindergarten met at DeSoto Kindergarten, the fifth grade was part of the Lexington Trails Middle School configuration and Grades one through four were housed at Countryside Elementary School.
The opening of this new school brought together a new principal and an increased number of certified and classified staff to serve a student population of over 500 students. Starside consists of a main corridor housing a state of the art media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, music room, art room, Discovery Room, two computer labs, four full size regular education classrooms, four primary classrooms, and an office complex with conference room, health office, two work rooms, principal's office and staff restroom. Extending from the main corridor are two academic wings each containing a multipurpose activity area, teacher work room, eight regular education classrooms and restroom facilities. Situated between the two academic wings on the exterior of the building is a versatile courtyard which extends out to a large soccer field. Two well equipped playgrounds are located on either side of the building.
