DRAMA (9-11) (SEM/YR)   

Drama is offered to students interested in theatre and who want to further their knowledge in this area.  The course will cover a brief history of theater, stagecraft techniques, including concepts of practical carpentry, set design and construction.  Instruction will include basic improvisation exercises that will assist in the student understanding and performances of dramatic material.  Students will be required to write a monologue as well as an original one act play in class.  The students will also study and critique in class writing and performances.  The goals of this course are to assist the student in their knowledge of theater and theatre craft, to foster creativity through the writing and producing of dramatic literature, and to enhance performance by the implementation and practice of new skills learned in exercises.

 

 


ADVANCED DRAMA (10-12) (SEM/YR)
*Requires Instructor Approval  
Advanced Drama is offered to students who have taken Drama and want to continue developing their performance skills at a more advanced level.  Students will concentrate on improving their acting skills becoming better communicators, vocally, physically, and mentally.  Students will study, write, and perform dialogue which reveals character motivation.  Collaboration will take place in the form of original dramatic pieces.  Students will also perform improvisation and theatre exercises, act opposite classmates and develop auditioning skills.  Students enrolled in this course will be required to try out for either the Fall musical or Spring play.

 

Stagecraft (10-12) (SEM/YR) Requires 1 year of Advanced Drama or Industrial Technology.  Stagecraft allows students to develop skills in designing and constructing theatrical related scenery.  This course will help to develop student skills and understanding of planning and building a structure.  It allows students to practice industrial arts skills.
