Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys, and Exams

  • The school district created this resource page in accordance with the requirements of a new Kansas law known as House Bill 2567, Section 27, which took effect July 1, 2022.  This webpage will host resource links to nonacademic tests, questionnaires, surveys and exams that may be available to students. Written parental consent is required for students to participate when these types of surveys or exams include questions about personal and private attitudes, values and beliefs, as well as practices of the student, parents, guardians, family members, associates, friends and/or peers.

When administering Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys, and Exams, the district will notify parents/guardians in writing no more than four months before administration of the Nonacademic Test, Questionnaire, Survey, and Exam (NTQSE). The notification will be sent to parents/guardians via email and will include a copy of the NTQSE. The notice will describe how the parent provides written consent, provide the name of the company or entity that produces or provides the survey, and explain how the data will be used.

The parent must “opt-in” with consent in writing or electronic signature for each NTQSE. The district will utilize electronic signatures through the secured Skyward Family Access. The student may “opt-out” of the NTQSE and must be informed of this right. A copy of the NTQSE is available on this webpage (below).

The district is embracing family engagement and transparency by asking parents to also "opt-in" their students for participation in other screeners and measures. Information related to other screeners and measures is on this webpage.

Other Screeners & Measures

  • mySAEBRS for grades 2 through 12

USD 232 has used mySAEBRS since 2019 and helps support the district’s school improvement plans and goals. The district is embracing family engagement and transparency by asking parents to "opt-in" their students for participation.

mySAEBRS for grades 2 through 12 is a social, academic, and emotional behavior risk screener produced by FastBridge Illuminate. It is a brief, norm-referenced tool for screening students to identify those who are at risk for social-emotional behavior concerns. This is the same company that is used for the district’s math and reading assessments. Having all three assessments on the same platform allows educators to have easy access to the results while meeting state requirements for assessment and screening. All data is securely gathered and specific to each student, with results containing a scaled score. Student-specific results are available to parents.

Information gained from all FastBridge assessments directly informs the district’s Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) for reading, math, and social-emotional learning, allowing educators to proactively meet the needs of students.

  • BrightBytes for grades 3 through 12

USD 232 has used BrightBytes since 2020 and helps support the district’s school improvement plans and goals. The district is embracing family engagement and transparency by asking parents to "opt-in" their students for participation.

BrightBytes perception questionnaires were developed by the U.S. Department of Education and are for local use. We are going to ask students, using a simple questionnaire, their perceptions of their strengths and needs regarding social and emotional issues. We will ask if they believe they have access to support and resources to help them through any concerns. Students can also share their perceptions of the school climate, culture, and connectedness. We will use this data to help support students through resources, trained staff, and social-emotional supports.

As you may remember, BrightBytes has a companion survey for parents which allows the district to develop a broader perspective of school climate.  All data is securely gathered and specific to each student, with results containing both percentages and a scaled sub-component scoring. Student-specific results are available to parents.

Information gained from BrightBytes directly informs the district’s Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) for reading, math, and social-emotional learning, allowing educators to proactively meet the needs of students.
