Components of the Program
Certified Parent Educators utilize the Parents as Teachers foundational curriculum to provide individualized, strength based visits to families focused on parent-child interaction, development centered parenting and family well being. Visits are scheduled approximately every 2 to 4 weeks and are about 45-60 minutes long. Currently, we are providing virtual or outdoor visits to our familes.
Virtual and outdoor events for families provide opportunities for parents to acquire information about child development, parenting and positive parent-child interaction, while gaining support from each other. De Soto Parents as Teachers offers both adult only and parent/child events throughout the school year.
At the current time, playgroups have been suspended until further notice.
Screenings provide regular information about each child's health and developmental progress, increases parents' understanding of their child's development and identifies strengths and abilities, as well as areas of concern. De Soto Parents as Teachers offers annual screenings to children enrolled in our program as well as all children birth-3 years in our school district.
The program connects families to needed resources and takes an active role in the community, establishing ongoing relationships with other institutions and organizations that serve families.
Our online PAT calendar features program activities as well as details about the event. In addition, parents enrolled in De Soto Parents as Teachers receive a monthly email with a calendar to view and print off. Click on the calendar on our homepage to find out the latest family events and play groups taking place at De Soto Parents as Teachers.
