Answers to Your Questions

  • Why do we need a foundation?

    Posted by:

The purpose of the foundation is to do more on behalf of the entire District and enhance the services and education provided by USD232.

Every district in our surrounding area has an established foundation to provide additional value, services and activities for their students and community. Funds raised will not replace current or lost State funded programs but can be applied toward new and innovative programs that benefit the USD 232 community.

  • What about the fundraising we do at our individual school? Won't this take away from that?

    Posted by:

The USD232 Education Foundation will not compete with PTAs, PTOs or Boosters at the school level. A foundation has the ability to secure larger funding, grants and district-wide donations that support the entire District, not a single school. PTA, PTO and Booster Club activities and efforts will remain autonomous and keep their school level initiatives moving forward. The district's foundation has the unique position to work on behalf of the needs of each of the 12 schools based on requests and initiatives that may not be feasible under existing budgets.

  • My business would like to support the foundation. How do I make a donation or grant?

    Posted by:

We appreciate the overwhelming support of our USD232 community as we start up the Education Foundation. As an individual, Alumni, Family, Business Partner or Community Supporters, you can make your tax deductible donation online or anytime through our established fund with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. www.growyourgiving.org

Every dollar raised stays in our district to support innovative learning to prepare our students for the future.

  • How will the money be distributed?

    Posted by:

The Foundation Board is in the process of surveying each school to capture the existing needs as well as a “wish list” of programs within the district. Feedback will come from teachers, administrators, DTA and representatives from each parent-lead organization. This insight will help guide the foundation board in determining future programs and activities. The foundation aims to keep all funds working within the district so we do not anticipate establishing a college scholarship program.

At this time, the board is focused on: identifying and applying for grant sources including establishing a grant request cycle and creating a teacher grant program to support innovative ideas. Funding for many of these initiatives would not be possible without the structure of a foundation. Several districts also have student support programs while others offer Pre-K services. Once feedback is gathered from our district community, the board will work toward establishing programs and initiatives that support or enhance our district and school level goals.

  • What is the district administration's role in the foundation?

    Posted by:

The Foundation will remain completely separate from the district and the district’s Board of Education. There will be one member from the Administration and one Board member from the Board of Education to ensure the foundation is not duplicating the work of the District Administration. Additionally, the Superintendent or their designated representative and a De Soto Teachers Association representative will serve as a resource on the foundation’s board.  In order to assist the Board members volunteering their time to create this Foundation, the district is graciously providing part-time administrative support for the time being.

  • Who is getting paid for this start up?

    Posted by:

No one. Every single person involved has voluntarily served for months to help start up the foundation. We are grateful for the dedication and expertise of so many members of our community that have come together to move this initiative forward.

Interested individuals can contact Casey Rooman Smith for more information. This is a working board and the foundation is in the process of establishing committees that will need voluntary support from dedicated community members.
