USD 232 Elementary Schools

  • USD 232 includes seven K-5 elementary schools.  These schools serve approximately 3,300 students. About 500 kindergarteners enroll each year.

      Core Curriculum

      • Elementary core curriculum focuses on reading, speaking, listening, language, writing, math, science, and social studies. Schools also provide instruction in art, music, library, technology, social-emotional learning, and physical education. Our schools utilize the Kansas State Department of Education Standards.       Structured Reading

      • Reading lays the groundwork for every subject a child will study in school. USD 232 schools are committed to ensuring every student is able to read at or above grade level. Giving young readers the best start possible will provide a strong foundation for their educational careers.  To this end, all elementary schools utilize structured literacy as the explicit and evidence-based approach to teaching literacy skills to all students. USD 232 designed a multi-year plan to provide all early childhood and elementary teachers with professional development that provides research, depth of knowledge, and skills necessary to make a significant improvement in literacy and language development of every student. Our district commitment ensures every teacher is equipped with deep knowledge required to be a literacy and language instructor, PreK-5.

      Goals & Strategic Plans

      • All schools have developed Goals and Strategic Plans to establish goals to support academic excellence, develop productive citizens, and develop foward-ready skills. Each school has a unique plan tailored to its community, culture, and student population.

      MTSS

      • Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a systemic, continuous-improvement framework in which data-based problem solving and decision-making is practiced across all levels of the educational system for supporting students. The framework of MTSS utilizes high quality evidence-based instruction, intervention, and assessment practices to ensure every student receives the appropriate level of support to be successful. A Multi-Tiered System of Supports helps schools organize resources through alignment of academic standards and behavioral expectations, implemented with fidelity and sustained over time, in order to enable every child to successfully reach his/her fullest potential.  

         

      PBIS

      • USD 232 elementary schools offer Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to foster positive school cultures. PBIS is a framework schools offer, to meet the needs of their communities, to maintain safe, positive school cultures.
