Dr. Cory Gibson joined USD 232 as Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2023, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in education, including eleven years as Superintendent of Schools in Valley Center, Kansas.

Throughout his career, Dr. Gibson has held a wide range of roles that reflect his deep commitment to education and community — from custodian and maintenance employee to paraeducator, teacher, counselor, principal, assistant superintendent, and consultant. This breadth of experience has shaped his understanding of every level of the educational system.

Dr. Gibson earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education (1998), master’s degree in school administration (2002), district-level administration degree (2007), and educational specialist degree (2009), all from Pittsburg State University. He later completed his Doctor of Education degree at the University of Arkansas in 2016.

His professional journey began in 1999 as a teacher at R.V. Haderlein Elementary School in Girard, Kansas. He went on to serve as principal and counselor at Roosevelt Elementary School in Miami, Oklahoma; principal of Lakeside Elementary School and Pittsburg Community Middle School in Pittsburg, Kansas; and assistant superintendent of USD 250 Pittsburg Public Schools, where he also served as an adjunct professor of Leadership Studies at Pittsburg State University. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Gibson served as superintendent of USD 440 Halstead-Bentley Schools before assuming leadership of Valley Center Public Schools.

Dr. Gibson currently continues to share his expertise as an adjunct professor of Leadership Studies at Wichita State University and Baker University.

Recognized for his leadership and dedication to public education, Dr. Gibson has received numerous honors, including Kansas Superintendent of the Year (2020), the Friends of Education ABC Award from the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force (2020), and the University of Arkansas Outstanding Doctorate Student Award (2017).

A native of Dodge City, Kansas, Dr. Gibson and his wife, Jennifer, are proud parents of two children.
