Portrait of a Graduate

The USD 232 "Portrait of a Graduate" is a representation of the skills, qualities, and attributes that educators aim to cultivate in students by the time they graduate from high school. It goes beyond academic achievements and includes the set of competencies to prepare students for success in various aspects of their lives.  The portrait goes beyond traditional academic knowledge to reflect employability skills. The portrait recognizes that education should not only focus on preparing students for college or specific careers but should also equip them with the tools and qualities necessary for a well-rounded and fulfilling life. The USD 232 Portrait of a Graduate serves as a guiding framework for educators to design curriculum, assessment methods, and extracurricular activities that contribute to the holistic development of students. It reflects a shift in education philosophy towards preparing students for the challenges and opportunities they may encounter in the complex and dynamic world beyond high school.

The competencies in the USD 232 Portrait of a Graduate were created by the Real World Learning Stakeholder Committee, approved by the Board of Education in December 2023, and the digital representation of the portrait was created by student Reagan Roberts (class of 2024) as a part of a Real World Learning Client Connected Project in Travis Kohler's Graphic Design classroom.
