Benefits Eligibility

Benefits are available to employees working at least 18.75 hours per week. Employees working fewer hours than full-time will need to pay a proportional share of their health insurance costs based on their contract hours.

Benefits eligibility begins on the first day of the calendar month following date of hire.

Benefits Guide

Medical

USD 232 provides five medical plan options through Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Kansas City: two high deductible health plans (HDHP), two traditional PPO plans, and one Spira Care EPO.

There are two network options—Blue Select Plus and Preferred Care Blue—along with nationwide coverage through the Blue Card network.

Employees can also provide medical coverage for their spouse and children (up to age 26) at their own expense.

Dental

Dental coverage is provided through Delta Dental of Kansas, which offers a traditional fee-for-service program. This program utilizes Kansas' largest network of dentists, encompassing approximately 80% of practicing dentists in the state.

By signing up for DeltaPremier, patients have the freedom to visit any dentist they choose. However, using a DeltaPremier dentist ensures that you will not pay more than the patient portion specified in your company dental plan.

Employees can also provide vision coverage for their spouse and children (up to age 26) at their own expense.

Vision

The vision plan, with Surency Vision, provides coverage for both in-network and out-of-network services.

To maximize cost savings, it is beneficial to use a network provider. If an out-of-network provider is chosen, the benefit will be based on a reimbursement schedule.

Additionally, discounts are available with some providers for Lasik surgery and other non-covered services.

Life Insurance

Short-Term Disability

All eligible employees are automatically provided with short-term disability insurance, fully funded by the district.

This insurance covers any off-the-job, physician-documented disability that may lead to a loss of income. The waiting period is 30 calendar days or the exhaustion of your sick leave, whichever is greater, following the accident or illness.

After this waiting period, the benefit pays 65% of the daily contract workday earnings, up to a maximum of $1,250 per week, for a duration of up to 26 weeks.

Voluntary Benefits

KPERS

The KPERS Trust Fund consists of both contributions and investment income. Eligible employees contribute 6% of each paycheck to the Retirement System, and USD 232 makes contributions as well.

After 5 years of service, employees become "vested," ensuring a guaranteed lifetime benefit upon retirement.

The Workers’ Compensation Reporting Procedures is intended to guide you through the process of receiving appropriate care for any work-related injury. All injuries must be reported by completing an incident report within two (2) days of the injury.

Your injury will be officially reported to the State of Kansas. As required by law, you will receive information from the Kansas Department of Labor, Division of Workers Compensation, to inform you of your rights under state workers' compensation laws.
