2025-2026 Child Nutrition Program Benefits
(Free and Reduced School Meals Program)
We are now accepting applications for Child Nutrition Program benefits (free/reduced price meals).
IMPORTANT! A new Child Nutrition Benefits application must be completed each school year in order to qualify for benefits. If you wish to obtain additional discounts for school fees or bus transportation fees based on your application status, you must complete the Consent for Disclosure form each school year and submit it to our office.
How to Get an Application
Choose the option that works best for you:
- Complete an online application through Skyward Family Access (instructions for completing the online application can be found here);
- Print the forms attached to this email;
- Download them from our website; or
- Pick up a paper copy at your child’s school starting July 22.
How to Submit Your Application
Submit the online application through Skyward Family Access or return your completed paper application using one of these methods:
- Drop it off at your child’s school office.
- Deliver it to our Administrative Office: 35200 W 91st St, De Soto, KS
- Mail it to: Student Nutrition, USD 232 De Soto, 35200 W 91st St, De Soto, KS 66018
- Email a scanned copy to: MDMiller@usd232.org (Note: We cannot accept faxed applications due to confidentiality rules.)
When Will You Hear Back?
We process applications within 10 business days. Please wait at least 2 business days before checking on your status.
Tips for a Faster Process
- List all household members and all sources of income (including child support, SSI, etc.).
- Sign the application.
- Include a valid email address to receive your results faster.
Special Notes:
- TAF/Food Assistance: If your household qualifies through the Kansas Direct Certification list, you’ll receive a letter by July 21. No need to apply separately.
- Medicaid: If your child qualifies through Medicaid, you’ll also receive a letter by July 21. If you believe you qualify for more benefits, you may still submit an application.
- Fee Discounts: To receive discounts on school or transportation fees, submit a Consent for Disclosure form each year.

Verification
USD 232 Student Nutrition will verify applications that meet any one of the following criteria:
- The application provided an income of $0.
- The household submitted >1 application for the current school year.
- The total household income is <$100.
- Application material is unclear or questionable (i.e., is it a 4 or 6).
- External information provided to the Student Nutrition Department questions the integrity of the application.
- Applicant provides information that does not match the completed application.
