Degrees and Certifications:
Gerri Balthazor, Principal
It is an honor to serve this amazing community as principal here at Mize. I have been in education since 1995 and still love every minute of it! I strongly believe that my experiences, students, colleagues, training, and my own love of learning, have made me the educator that I am today.
I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University and began my career as an At-Risk reading teacher for third and fourth grades. From there, I taught freshman English and drama at Manhattan High East before moving to Colby, Kansas. During my years in Colby, I taught fourth and fifth grade and then went on to team-teach sixth through eighth grades in a technology-rich, project-based charter school.
In a quest to further my education, I completed my master’s degree in Administration and Educational Leadership at Kansas State University in 2010. That year, I also joined USD 232 as an eighth grade English Language Arts teacher at Monticello Trails.
At Mize, we strive to produce a quality, effective educational environment that encourages the growth and development of our students. Education is constantly changing and our goal is to stay at the forefront of these changes to produce quality education for twenty-first century learners.
Welcome to Mize Elementary, where we celebrate each individual not only as they are, but as they are yet to be!
