Youth for Refugees
Collage

  • Overview:

The main goal of Youth for Refugees is to help better the lives of refugees in the Kansas City area and to educate students on the struggles that refugees face in their countries.  This will be achieved through meetings where students will both learn about the countries that refugees come from and they will plan fundraisers.  As a major project, Youth for Refugees partners with Della Lamb of Kansas City to collect furniture, food, and other household items to fully furnish a new home for a refugee family moving to the Kansas City area.  Youth for Refugees also volunteers at Kansas City International Academy in Kansas City, MO to help maintain its clothing closet and participate in special events like Trunk or Treat.

    Purpose:

    • Educate students about the struggles that refugees face today.
    • Fundraise and volunteer to support local refugee families.
    • Interact with people from different countries who have been through far different experiences than we here in Shawnee have.
    • Understand what is happening in other countries and why there are refugees from these countries.

    Membership:

Membership for this club is open to all MVHS students. There is no criteria that must be met or any restrictions.
