Emergency Safety Interventions
Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI) is the use of seclusion and restraint on a student or individual when they pose an immediate danger of physical harm to themselves or others.
The Board of Education is committed to limiting the use of ESI with all students. Seclusion and restraint shall be used only when a student's conduct necessitates the use of an emergency safety intervention. The board encourages all employees to utilize other behavioral management tools, including prevention techniques, de-escalation techniques, and positive behavioral intervention strategies.
