New Students

The first step in the enrollment process is to verify residency by providing supporting documentation. If you are unsure whether you reside within the boundaries of USD 232, then you may use the School Locator App.  A student is considered a resident of the district for attendance purposes if the student lives in the district with a parent or person acting acting as parent (legal definition), or if the child has been placed in the district by a district court or Kansas Department of Children and Families or if the child is a homeless child.

Proof of Residency
For enrollment, the parent or guardian must provide at least one (1) item from the categories below to support residency verification. The name and address on the documents must match the residence property address to be listed on registration documents for the student (P.O. Box addresses are NOT accepted).

Mortgage Statement or Lease/Rental Agreement

• The most current copy of your Mortgage Statement or Lease/Rental Agreement in your name showing residence property address and signatures of the lessor/lessee and names of all occupants of the leased residence. (If you are on a month-to-month lease/rental agreement, you will also need to provide the most current month's rental receipt or cancelled check.)

Current Utility Bill

• Current Electric Bill
• Current Home Gas Bill
• Current Water Bill
• Current Waste Management Bill 

In the case of purchasing a home under construction, a copy of the executed contract showing the residence property address will be required.

 

With new student enrollment, you will be asked to provide certain information required to attend public schools. If you do not have this information available, please take the time to gather the documentation. You may contact our school staff for guidance.

New students entering kindergarten, first grade, or early childhood

Who is eligible to attend kindergarten?

• Any child who attains the age of five on or before August 31 of the school year and is a resident of the district is eligible to attend kindergarten in the district. Also, any child who has been enrolled in and attended kindergarten in an accredited school in another state is eligible for kindergarten in this state, regardless of the child's age.
• Each year, our elementary schools host Kindergarten Roundup, usually during March/April for the upcoming school year. This is a great time to start the registration process.

Who is eligible to attend first grade?

• Any child who attains the age of six on or before August 31 of the school year and is a resident of the district or any child who has completed a public or accredited private kindergarten course in another state, regardless of the child's age, is eligible to attend first grade.

Who is eligible to attend Early Childhood Peer Model Program? 

• Ages 36 months to five years. We have a limited number of slots available for Peer Models.
• The Peer Model Program provides an opportunity for typically-developing children to be integrated into our Early Childhood Special Education classrooms to serve as role models for our children with special needs. Peer Model students provide positive peer interactions, demonstrate play skills and model appropriate language and behavior for children with special needs while in the classroom setting.  Learn more about Early Childhood

Proof of Identity (also required for Early Childhood students)

• Certified state copy of your child's birth certificate.  Parents may apply for a Kansas birth certificate for their child by visiting the Kansas Department of Health and Environment  website and downloading the appropriate form.

You will also need:

• Immunization records or written validation of medical or religious exemption.  Learn more about Immunizations.
• A copy of your child's most recent report card and your child's Individual Education Program (IEP), if your child has one.  It is also helpful to bring proof of your legal guardianship if your last name is different from your child's last name.
• New to Kansas students born on or after July 1, 1994, and up to the age of nine are required to have a health assessment in accordance with Kansas Statute 72-6267. Download a Health Assessment form (PDF) for your child's physician to complete.

New students entering 2nd through 6th grade

Proof of Identity (one of the following):

• Certified state copy of your child's birth certificate (preferred)
• Certified transcript of school records
• Actual school records from the sending school

You will also need:

• Immunization records or written validation of medical or religious exemption. Learn more about Immunizations.
• A copy of your child's most recent report card, and your child's Individual Education Program (IEP), if your child has one. It is also helpful to bring proof of your legal guardianship if your last name is different from your child's last name.
• New to Kansas students born on or after July 1, 1994, and up to the age of nine are required to have a health assessment in accordance with Kansas Statute 72-6267. Download a Health Assessment form (PDF) for your child's physician to complete.

New students entering 7th through 12th grade

Proof of Identity (one of the following):

• Certified state copy of your child's birth certificate (preferred)
• Certified transcript of school records
• Actual school records from the sending school

You will also need:

• Immunization records or written validation of medical or religious exemption. Learn more about Immunizations.
• A copy of your child's most recent report card and your child's individual Education Program (IEP), if your child has one.  It is also helpful to bring proof of your legal guardianship if your last name is different from your child's last name.
• A physical is recommended for all new students entering the district and required for all students desiring to participate in district-sponsored sports.  Download a Kansas State High School Activities Association Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation Form for your child's physician to complete.
  • The annual physical must be obtained after May 1 for use in the following school year.
  • All items in the form must be completed.
  • A parent's signature is required for student participation.
  • A new physical is required each school year for sports participation.

As you begin to gather your documentation, please know that you may contact your child's school at any time during this process. New students register at the schools in their attendance area. As a convenience, we have scheduled registration / enrollment dates in August prior to the start of the new school year. If the school year is already in session, our staff members will help you complete the registration as quickly as possible.

Once you contact the school, our staff will guide you through the process, providing information on health and immunization requirements, transportation options, fees, and placement for special needs students. There will be other forms for you to complete as part of our registration / enrollment process. The school will provide the necessary forms.

Registration / Enrollment

That's it! Deliver your documentation to the school to complete the registration process. For many parents, this occurs during our annual registration / enrollment window prior to the start of school. Once your student is registered, our staff members will work with you on course selections and class schedules (secondary students).
