Battle of the Brains Team Presents to Board

A group of fifth-grade student representatives from Mize Elementary recently shared their experience competing in the Burns & McDonnell Battle of the Brains, a regional STEM competition where schools design exhibit concepts for Science City at Union Station.

Led by teacher Suzanne Cox, the class earned a Top 20 finish, securing a $2,500 STEM grant and the chance to advance into the Top 5, where awards can reach up to $50,000.

Their exhibit concept, Time to Drive Deeper, is an ADA-accessible, hands-on learning experience that explores the science of cars, driving, and mobility. In addition to expanding their knowledge of the project, students strengthened skills in collaboration, perseverance, and problem-solving.

The student representatives that shared their project with the board were Arabella, Vivi, Ro, Faith, and Grace.

We’re cheering them on as they head to this week’s awards ceremony to see if they advance to the next round of the competition!
