Jundt received the exciting news during a personal phone call on Tuesday, January 6, from Dr. Randy Watson, Commissioner of Education for the State of Kansas.
The Kansas Horizon Award Program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, honors outstanding first-year educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching in elementary and secondary classrooms across the state. Although this is Jundt’s second year of teaching, she is being recognized for the exceptional impact she made during her first year in the classroom.
Jundt was selected through a competitive regional process aligned with Kansas’s four US congressional districts. Regional selection committees appointed by the Kansas State Department of Education reviewed nominations and selected up to four elementary and four secondary teachers per region, for a total of up to 32 educators statewide.
As a 2026 Kansas Horizon Award winner, Jundt will be individually recognized at a luncheon during the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network Conference in February. She will also attend the two-day conference as a special guest.
Riverview Elementary and the district congratulate Brittney Jundt on this well-deserved honor and celebrate her dedication to students and excellence in education!
