Unified School District No. 232 announced Mrs. Elexis Brack as the new principal of Horizon Elementary, effective with the 2025-26 school year. The Board of Education formally approved Brack's appointment at its meeting on Monday, February 3.
Brack will succeed Mr. Steve Crutchfield, who announced his retirement in September 2024 after ten years as a principal at Horizon Elementary and 29 years in public education, all in USD 232.
The appointment of Elexis Brack follows an extensive search process conducted by the school district, which included interest from more than 40 applicants. “We are thrilled to welcome back Elexis to the Horizon community, this time as their new school principal.” stated Carrie Handy, Chief of Personnel. “The knowledge she has acquired during her educational career will prove to be a strong asset for both students and educators alike in her new leadership role. Her passion for learning will be a driving force helping elevate the academic potential for all students.”
Brack is an experienced educator with over 20 years in public education, including 17 years spent in the classroom before transitioning into administrative leadership roles. She has served as a District Literacy Specialist in Olathe and as a School Improvement Specialist at Horizon Elementary. Brack currently holds the position of Coordinator of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction for USD 232. “I am excited to return to Horizon Elementary as principal and look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the continued success of the school community,” shared Brack.
Brack will reconnect with the school community at Horizon Elementary in the coming weeks to welcome families and students to the 2025-26 school year.
Brack began her career in education in 2004 as an English Language Arts and Social Studies middle school teacher in Liberty, Missouri. She continued to teach middle school in both the Washburn and Olathe School Districts while expanding her leadership skills in professional development and literacy. Her journey led her to USD 232 where she currently serves as the Coordinator of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.
Brack earned both her Bachelor of Science in Education and her Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. She has been married to her husband, Dylan, for the past 15 years and are the proud parents of Lincoln and Lydia, who attend USD 232 schools. Her family enjoys spending time outdoors whether it is camping, hiking, biking, or spending time at the lake.
