USD 232 named a Top Area School District

The Kansas City Business Journal launched its new school index score to measure Kansas City school districts and identify those school systems considered to be high-performing.

USD 232 is ranked second behind the Blue Valley School District leading the Kansas City area as top school districts.

According to the Kansas City Business Journal (KCBJ), the index is based on student performance on standardized exams at various grade levels, district wide student-teacher ratios and graduation rates, using the most recent data available for each district.

About the Index

The Kansas City Business Journal School Index is comprised of nine components of equal weight. Districts receive a score for each component, based on how they compare with the bi-state average. Data comes from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Kansas State Department of Education, surveys completed by the districts and KCBJ staff calculations.

Below is a list of the nine components used to compute each district's total index score.

  • Four-year graduation rate
  • ACT scores
  • Student-teacher ratio
  • Fourth-grade English, language arts/reading proficiency
  • Fourth-grade math proficiency
  • Fourth and fifth-grade science proficiency
  • Eighth-grade English, language arts/reading proficiency
  • Eighth-grade math proficiency
  • Seventh and eighth-grade science
