Elementary Playgrounds

The plan to replace the three of the oldest elementary playgrounds of Starside, Mize, and Clear Creek was completed by August 2019.

The remaining four elementary schools of Prairie Ridge, Horizon, Riverview and Belmont were completed during the summer of 2020.

Each playground was resurfaced with a new, modern surface solution to enhance the safety of each site. Some playground equipment will be replaced due to age (up to 20 years old), which is beginning to make repairs costly. All playgrounds will be updated to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Board of Education selected ABCreative for design and installation. The playgrounds focus on the seven elements of play and maximize the integration of inclusive pieces so children of all abilities can play together. Playground activities not only help a child develop physically, but also help in the areas of cognitive, adaptive, social and emotional development. Phase I playgrounds were completed by August 2019; Phase II was completed August 2020.
