Rob Foster Receives the USD 232 Making a Difference Award
The USD 232 Education Foundation had the honor to recognize Rob Foster with the USD 232 Making a Difference Award on March 13, 2020. This award, sponsored by Great American Bank, was created to celebrate and honor the exceptional teachers and staff in USD 232. This award will be given monthly throughout the school year to recognize those who are truly “making a difference in the lives of young people.”
Rob Foster is the Band Director at Lexington Trails Middle School and has been with the district since 2005. He is a KU graduate and holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education. In addition to the 6th, 7th, and 8th band classes, a jazz band class is also offered for all band students. This opportunity offers extra rehearsal time to help strengthen the students’ musical skills and build more confident musicians.
Here is an excerpt from one of the nominators:
Mr. Foster always makes sure every student has every possible opportunity to creatively express themselves through the world of music. If a student wants to play an instrument, he finds a way to make that happen. He constantly encourages students to explore competition opportunities and solos during concerts. He spends countless hours helping students perfect their skills and attending music events across the state. I can't think of a better role model and person that truly makes a difference in the lives of young learners.
Mr. Foster works diligently each year to provide numerous opportunities to his students to participate in fun music activities outside of school. Some of these exciting, annual events include the Wichita State Middle School Band Day, Trombone Christmas at Crown Center and Tuba Christmas at the Kauffman Center.
Mr. Foster also organized a Night of Jazz, which featured all USD 232 middle and high school jazz bands, held at LTMS. The event also featured the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra Seven jazz combo, the house band for the Kauffman Performing Arts Center, and provided students the opportunity to hear professional musicians live at their own school.
USD 232 and the USD 232 Education Foundation present the Making a Difference Award cooperatively with the program being sponsored by Great American Bank in De Soto.
Nominations are currently accepted for the Making a Difference Award to be given in April. Nominations are due April 1, 2020.
