Congrats to Susan Slater, Assistant Principal at Lexington Trails Middle School, for being honored with the USD 232 Making a Difference Awardfor the month of September. This award, sponsored by Great American Bank, was created to celebrate and honor the exceptional teachers and staff in USD 232. This award will be given monthly throughout the school year to recognize those who are truly “making a difference in the lives of young people.”
Susan first started with USD 232 as a paraprofessional at Countryside in October 1988. She taught third grade for six-years before switching to teach at the middle school level when Lexington Trails opened in 1995. Here she taught computers and physical education while also serving as coach for volleyball and track. Susan is starting her seventh year as Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Lexington Trails Middle School. She graduated from Emporia State in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Physical Education and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University.
Here is an excerpt from one of her nominations:
Susan cares deeply about each student and staff member at Lexington Trails. She is the first person at work and the last to leave, always going above and beyond her job description. For the past 25+ years her leadership and presence at LTMS has had a positive impact on thousands of students.
The school district and the USD 232 Education Foundation present the Making a Difference Award cooperatively with the program being sponsored by Great American Bank in De Soto.
Nominations are currently accepted for the Making a Difference Award for the month of October. Nominations will be received through the end of October 2021 with the award being presented in November.
