Wendy Weeks, a fourth grade teacher at Belmont Elementary School, has been named the USD 232 Making a Difference Award winner for January 2022. Congratulations Wendy!
Wendy has over 30 years of teaching experience, with 15 of those years as a part of USD 232. She started with the district teaching fourth and fifth grade at Riverview Elementary and in 2011, she moved to Belmont Elementary where she currently teaches fourth grade. Wendy has been previously nominated for the KDpi Teacher of the Year award from Avila University. She is also responsible for starting a Homework Club at Belmont Elementary, as well as forming a committee called the Miracle Fund, which is a team of teachers who raise money for classroom supplies and student enrichment. Wendy earned her undergraduate degree from Fort Hays State and her Master’s degree in Teaching from Webster University.
Here is an excerpt from one of her nominations:
I would like to nominate my daughter’s fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Weeks for “Making a Difference”. Throughout the year, she has encouraged my daughter to continue to push herself and to stride to always do her best. Mrs. Weeks encourages her students to take responsibility for their actions and their learning. She gives them a sense of empowerment and confidence. The students are taught to not be afraid of making a mistake because mistakes lead to learning.
The USD 232 Making a Difference award was created to celebrate the exceptional teachers and staff at USD 232 who are truly “making a difference in the lives of young people". The school district and the USD 232 Education Foundation present the monthly Making a Difference Award cooperatively with the program being sponsored by Great American Bank in De Soto.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the Making a Difference Award for the month of February. Nominations are due February 28, 2022. Monthly entries are encouraged as new nominations are reviewed on a monthly basis.
