Congratulations to Summer Ruder, a speech language pathologist (SLP) for the Early Childhood program at Cedar Trails Exploration Center, for being April’s USD 232 Making a Difference Award winner.

Here is an excerpt from her parent nomination:

My son started preschool last year putting two to three words together. This year he can carry on a conversation. Ms. Summer is always so cheerful and excited to see her kids. She makes learning fun and easy. My son is blessed to have her and I can’t wait to see what more she has to teach him next school year.

Summer joined USD 232 as a speech language pathologist in August 2003. She has worked with students of all ages as an SLP, most recently at the Early Childhood program at CTEC. Summer earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication Services and Disorders from Kansas State University and a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Fort Hays State University.

The school district and the USD 232 Education Foundation present the Making a Difference Award cooperatively each month with the program sponsored by Great American Bank in De Soto. The USD 232 Making a Difference award celebrates the exceptional teachers and staff in our district who are truly “making a difference in the lives of young people.”  Each honoree receives $250 along with a special trophy created by CAPS students at the Cedar Trails Exploration Center as part of a real-world learning project in emerging technologies.

Nominations for the month of May are currently being accepted for the Making a Difference Award and are due May 31, 2022. Monthly entries are encouraged as new nominations are reviewed monthly.
