DHS and MVHS Seniors named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation named Elizabeth Schottler and Abigail Yarbrough, seniors at De Soto High School, and Mill Valley High School seniors John Fraka, John Lehan and Ben Wieland, as Semifinalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program. This distinction places all five students in the top one percent of all high school seniors in the country.
These five seniors will learn if they advance to the Finalist level in February 2021. With the National Merit Scholarship being a competition, each Semifinalist will provide information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, honors and awards received as well as two sets of SAT test scores, a recommendation from a high school official and a personal essay in order to become a Finalist.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2021 will be selected from the group of Finalists with the winners being announced the beginning of April and concluding in July. Merit Scholar designees are selected based on their skills, accomplishments and potential success. These scholarship recipients will join some 353,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
