USD 232 honored through Kansans Can Star Recognition Program


The Kansas State Board of Education and Kansas State Department of Education recognized USD 232 (De Soto) on Tuesday, April 13 for excelling in six educational outcomes established around the vision for education in Kansas through the Star Recognition Program for 2020.

USD 232 received more recognitions than any other schoolKansans Can Commissioners Award 2020 district in Johnson County.

  • Graduation: Gold
  • Postsecondary Success: Silver
  • Prepared for Postsecondary: Bronze
  • Social-Emotional Growth: Silver
  • Individual Plan of Study: Bronze
  • Commissioner’s Award

The Star Recognition Program is designed to support the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) process by providing a level of recognition that helps districts identify where they want to focus their improvement efforts.

The program recognizes district success in the outcome measures, categorized as either quantitative or qualitative measures, are serving as a roadmap to help Kansas reach its educational vision. Kansas currently leads the world in the educational success of each student.

Districts can receive gold, silver, bronze or copper stars in the qualitative measures of:

  • Social-emotional growth.
  • Kindergarten readiness.
  • Individual Plan of Study.
  • Civic engagement.

Districts can receive gold, silver, bronze or copper stars in these quantitative measure areas:

  • Academically prepared for postsecondary.
  • High school graduation.
  • Postsecondary success.
