USD 232 honored through Kansans Can Star Recognition Program
The Kansas State Board of Education and Kansas State Department of Education recognized USD 232 (De Soto) for excelling in six educational outcomes established around the vision for education in Kansas through the Star Recognition Program for 2021.
USD 232 received more recognitions than any other school district in Johnson County.
- High School Graduation: Gold
- Postsecondary Success: Gold
- Social-Emotional Growth: Silver
- Individual Plan of Study: Bronze
- Prepared for Postsecondary: Copper
- Commissioner’s Award

The Star Recognition Program is designed to support the Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) process by providing a level of recognition that helps districts identify where they want to focus their improvement efforts.
The program recognizes district success in the outcome measures, categorized as either quantitative or qualitative measures, are serving as a roadmap to help Kansas reach its educational vision. Kansas currently leads the world in the educational success of each student.
Districts can receive gold, silver, bronze or copper stars in the qualitative measures of:
- Social-emotional growth
- Kindergarten readiness
- Individual Plan of Study
- Civic engagement
Districts can receive gold, silver, bronze or copper stars in these quantitative measure areas:
- Academically prepared for postsecondary
- High school graduation
- Postsecondary success
USD 232 was also one of 68 Kansas school districts that received the Commissioner’s Award. This recognition is achieved by those districts that outperform their predicted postsecondary effectiveness rate.
