MVHS Journalism Department named 5A State Champions
Congratulations to the Mill Valley Journalism Department for winning back-to-back state journalism titles on Saturday, May 1. The MVHS team of student journalists scored a total of 63 points to secure their first place spot followed by Salina Central High School with 50 points and Hays High School with 44 points.
Senior Ben Wieland won the state title in sports writing and MV Jag team Steven Curto, Emily Feuerborn, Quinn Franken, Emma Hookstra, and Ben Wieland won first place in the multimedia storytelling category. Senior Tatum Elliott placed in all four contests she competed in while also earning 19 points, scoring the most points of any student in the 5A-6A contest.
All three of Mill Valley High School’s publications, which include 2021 JagWire Magazine, 2020 JAG Yearbook, and 2021 Mill Valley News Online, each earned the top rating of KSPA’s All-Kansas rankings.
