USD 232 Educators receive Whelan Leadership Learning Award

The University of Kansas, Department of Education, recognized six USD 232 educators from Mill Valley High School as recipients of the 2022 Whelan Leadership Learning Award for their extraordinary leadership and vigorous pursuit of learning opportunities for each and every student. This award was presented to the MVHS team for their leadership on the Propel Project and Autism Intervention Research Network on Behavioral Health (AIR-B). Both projects focus on changing poor postschool outcomes for students with autism and work to provide equitable and inclusive education for all students no matter their exceptionality. These education leaders include:

  • Amy Welzenbach

The Whelan Leadership Learning Award was named for Professor Richard J. Whelan, who served as Chair in the KU Department of Special Education and Dean of the School of Education. As a renowned leader in the field of education, his contributions are recognized annually by honoring the work of a practicing educational leader or leadership team.
