The Mill Valley High School Boys and Girls Track & Field Team was recognized by the Board of Education for their Kansas Class 5A State Championship title win on June 6, 2022. Both teams were also regional champions.
Chris McAfee, the head coach for both the boys and girls track & field teams, helped guide the MV athletes to a back-to-back state title for the boys and the first state title for the girls' team. Mill Valley qualified 40 student-athletes for the state championship meet in Wichita.
This is the first time since 2004 that the same school has won the 5A state championship for girls and boys. Mill Valley and Liberal High School are the only programs to sweep both state titles in track and field.
This track & field season, the MV teams set nine school records, including four at the state meet:
Quincy Hubert 100 M Hurdles and 300 M Hurdles (broke her 300 M hurdle record at state)
Kendrick Jones in the high jump (6'10")
Adrian Dimond in the triple jump (48' 3")
Savannah Harvey in the 100M dash and 200M dash (100M school record at state)
Charlotte Caldwell in the 800M run
4 x 400 M Relay (Quincy Hubert, Josie Benson, Raina Frantz, Charlotte Caldwell)
Nen Matlock in the 400M (broke it twice at the state meet)
In addition to the team state titles, Mill Valley has the following individual state champions:
Quincy Hubert in the 100M Hurdles and the 300M Hurdles
Adrian Dimond in the triple jump
Kate Roth in the long jump
Mill Valley also had a combined 25 additional state medalists in various events. Congrats to the Mill Valley Track & Field team for their State Championship titles!
