Three elementary students from USD 232 presented winning projects at the 2023 Greater Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair at Union Station March 30-April 1.

Violet Mora, 4^th grader from Horizon Elementary, won 1^st place in the Intermediate Academic category, Computer Systems, Electronics & Robotics, for her experiment "What Materials Block WiFi signals?"

Gracelyn Clyde, 4^th grader from Prairie Ridge Elementary, won 1^st place in Intermediate Chemistry for her experiment "How does baking soda affect cookies?"

Rylie Jablonski, 3^rd grader from Horizon Elementary, won four special awards for her project "Can wildflowers grow in landfill soil?" which included:

1. 1. Burroughs Auduobon Society of Greater Kansas City Award
   2. Kansas City Garden Club Award
   3. US EPA Environmental Science Award
   4. Lakeside Nature Center Award

Congratulations to all three students for their amazing accomplishment in the field of STEM at this annual event!

The Greater Kansas City Science Fair is in its 72^nd year and helps promote the science, engineering, math and technology (STEM) disciplines. Students in grades 4-12 from 15 counties across the Kansas City metro area had the opportunity to use science and engineering practices in a project-based learning opportunity.
