Real-World-Learning initiative, elementary students participate in career awareness opportunities designed to connect their interests with career possibilities, which can include guest speakers, career fairs, field trips, and various tours.

McKenzi Mispagel, Starside counselor and event organizer, shared: “This year Starside was excited to bring back an in-person career fair. Through partnerships with many local businesses, we were able to transform the career fair into a touch-a-truck style event. Students in our building enjoyed the hands-on, real world learning experience. It was a huge success, and we are already looking forward to next year’s Careers on Wheels.”

Students from all grade levels had a chance to visit and interact with a variety of community vendors, which included: Betty’s Trucking, City of De Soto, Evergy, Heritage Tractor, Janssen Stables, Jim Cannon Trucking, Johnson County Paramedics, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Johnston Construction, Martin Marietta Materials, Northwest Consolidated Fire District Station 13 and Turner Construction.
