USD 232 FIRST Robotics Competition Teams experience successful season

USD 232 is now home to two FIRST Robotics Competition teams. Team 1810 Catatronics is the junior and senior team; Team 9316 Cubatronics is comprised mainly of freshman and sophomores.  Forming an additional team eliminated the need to make cuts and deny any student a chance at participating. The second robotics team provides an opportunity for all high school students who are interested in robotics a chance to explore and learn.

Formerly based out of Mill Valley High School, the robotics team moved to the newly opened Cedar Trails Exploration Center building in the fall of 2021. Before the move, the team consisted of 20-30 students.  After the move, the team exploded in size, with 59 students participating.  Because of the increase, a second competition team was formed consisting of freshman and sophomore students with a couple of juniors in a leadership role.

USD 232 Robotics Team at Greater KS Regional 2023

Team 1810 Catatronics participated in two different regional competitions.  The first was the Central Missouri Regional at Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, Missouri on March 23-25 in which thirty teams from around the Midwest (Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Oklahoma and Minnesota) came to compete.  Team 1810 finished fifth in the competition.  Team 9316 received the Team Sustainability Award earned for creating a team structure and environment that will be able to sustain itself over time.

Both Team 1810 Catatronics and Team 9316 Cubatronics also competed in the Greater Kansas City Regional on March 29 -April 1 at Lee’s Summit North High School.  This competition had 36 teams from across the Midwest as well as two teams from Brazil.  Throughout the weekend, the judges evaluated all teams for various individual robot and team honors. Team Catatronics earned the Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors for their innovative use of sensors and cameras on their intake. Team Cubatronics earned the Highest Rookie Seed Award as well as the Rookie Inspiration Award for being an organized and competitive rookie team.

Congrats to both FIRST Robotics teams for a very successful season this year!
