USD 232 is pleased to announce the accomplishment of one of our very own De Soto High School educators, Ms. Mikki Gotham. Mikki has been selected to serve on the Teacher Advisory Board of the renowned Nelson-Atkins Museum, a well-deserved recognition of her dedication and passion for the visual arts.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum, located in Kansas City, is not only a local treasure but a nationally recognized institution known for its extensive and diverse collection of art. To be selected as a member of the Teacher Advisory Board is an honor and evidence of Mikki's expertise and dedication in the field of arts education.

As an advisory board member, Mikki will have the opportunity to collaborate with other educators, museum staff, and local artists to help shape educational programs and resources for schools in the KC metro. For instance, the Nelson is a repository for numerous local indigenous artifacts. Mikki will soon work to develop a catalog of artists from Kansas and Missouri, making it easier for teachers and students to find relevant artifacts and artwork for their curricular needs.

“I look forward to seeing how these academic experiences will shape students for the real world and inspire an appreciation for the Nelson.” Her insights and contributions will play a significant role in enhancing the museum's outreach to schools and making art accessible to a wider audience. Mikki looks forward to sharing her experience with her USD 232 art colleagues and the impact it will have on K-12 art education.
