DHS announced as Performing Arts School of Excellence Award Winner
August 18, 2023
The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) selected De Soto High School as the winner of the KSHSAA Performing Arts School of Excellence for 2023-24. This esteemed accolade, presented to just a single high school in Kansas annually, commends exceptional achievements in music, debate, speech, and theater.
KSHSAA established a committee of selectors, comprising leaders from specific performing associations in Kansas, in collaboration with the KSHSAA staff. This committee assessed schools that achieved remarkably high scores in debate, speech, music, and theatre throughout the 2022-23 academic year. The committee selected one winner, six finalists and 11 commended schools across the state of Kansas. According to Craig Manteuffel, KSHSAA Assistant Executive Director of Fine Arts and Spirit, “It is very difficult to flourish in all categories of the performing arts and we are so proud to honor these 18 schools in 2023-24.”
Dr. Cory Gibson, Superintendent of Schools stated, “This award not only highlights the exceptional achievements of our students but also underscores the support and encouragement provided by our parents, guardians, staff members, and the entire community. Congratulations to everyone involved in making De Soto High School a hub of excellence in the performing arts. Your hard work and dedication continue to inspire us all.”
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and exceptional talent of our students, faculty, and staff. The recognition of De Soto High School as the recipient of the KSHSAA Performing Arts School of Excellence award reflects the remarkable commitment to excellence that defines our educational community in USD 232.
A formal award presentation will take place at the DHS football game on Friday, September 1, 2023. The De Soto High School administration and performing arts departments will be honored in front of their community with a plaque presentation by the KSHSAA. Please join us in extending congratulations to the exceptional initiatives and Performance Arts program leaders at De Soto High School for this notable achievement.
