On Saturday, November 17th, the DHS Science Olympiad team competed in the “O-Town Throwdown” invitational tournament at Olathe North High School. Twenty-one area high schools competed in 23 events ranging from building and engineering challenges to knowledge and skills testing across the scientific disciplines. DHS ranked 15th overall, and took home two placing ribbons. Ryan Handley earned a sixth place ribbon in “Herpetology,” a challenge in identification of amphibians and reptiles. Caleb Kmiecik and Kyle Smith earned a fifth place ribbon in “Write It, Do It,” a challenge in technical writing in which one partner describes an object and the other partner must use their writing to build the object from its components, sight unseen. Other student participants included Scott Blanck, Matthew Deibert, Daniel England, Isabel Haake, Mason Laney, Luke LeBar, Connor McCall, Cody Murphy, and Brent Smith.
