On Saturday, February 23rd, the DHS science Olympiad team competed in the regional tournament at JCCC. The team placed 9th overall out of 21 teams with the following students placing in their event:
1st Fermi questions = Cody Murphy and Caleb Kmiecik
4th Dynamic planet = Luke LeBar and Brent Smith
4th Geologic mapping = Isabel Haake and Luke LeBar
6th Disease detectives = Isabel Haake and Connor Kmiecik
Other participants included Scott Blank, Matthew Deibert, Daniel England, Sean Ferrel, Ryan Handley, Avery Hantla, Connor McCall, Kyle Smith, and Mason Laney.
For the third consecutive year and for the third time in our team’s history, these students have qualified to participate in the state tournament on Saturday, April 6th at Wichita State University. They will be up against the top teams from all over the state of Kansas in a variety of events that include complex building and engineering challenges as well as comprehensive problem solving and knowledge-based exams.
