Personal Electronic Devices

As communicated, USD 232 is set to roll out its One-Device-per-Learner technology initiative this fall when school begins. Each student will be issued a MacBook, and we are excited with the possibilities this will bring to our classrooms and to the overall educational experiences our students will have. I’m sure that - as with any substantial undertaking – we will have our share of bumps along the way as we acclimate the MacBooks to our students and our students the MacBooks. Parents will receive more information about the new MacBooks in the coming days.

Related to our transition to the use of district-issued devices, we will implement a policy change in regard to the use of personal electronic devices at school. Effective for the 2019-20 school year, the use of personal electronic devices (mobile phones, smartphones, iPads, etc.) will be allowed only during passing periods and during lunch. The use of personal electronic devices in class will be prohibited. While this is a shift for our building and district (this change is noted in the DHS student/parent handbook), I am confident our students will adjust.

This time of year brings so much excitement and anticipation as we look toward the start of a new school year. I hope you and your family enjoy the remainder of your summer, and if there is anything we can do to help, please do not hesitate to let us know.
